Hi there,
So I’ve finally found a minute to introduce myself and my horse Buddy. My name is Amanda Stygar and I am a trainer and clinician out of Washington State. My horse is a coming four year old Azteca gelding. He was given to me just before this event. His previous life consisted of being a pasture horse came to me being halter broke. I was happy that he wasn’t very advanced because that made my job easier ( it’s always easier to teach the right way first, than having to go back and help them relearn what is right). He came to me underweight and in need of a proper nutrition program. This has led to some challenges, I have to keep my training on him short (so we don’t burn too many calories and I don’t wear him out which might make him reluctant to come out and work) this has made me think outside of the box on what is the most integral things to get done in short increments we have available.
So I started him on April 4th and as of today I have seventeen rides on him. These rides have consisted of a trail challenge (which he scored 73 points out of 100), my clinic horse for a trail obstacle clinic we had this last weekend, he is also getting used to being hauled and I have rode him in five different arenas so far. He’s also been out on the trail alone and with other horses. I am planning to work some colts with him today and hopefully go on a short trail ride.
We have worked on some liberty, but not much because I have wanted to get him started and building a connection first.
I hope you enjoy reading about our journey and I will try to keep a daily blog running along with my Facebook page updates. Feel free to check out my page and the Ahrens Horsemanship Facebook page to see what other horses I’m training.
